Cole Cavlin

Cole Cavlin, a 26-year-old Minnesota-born outdoorsman, carpenter, and self-taught artist, currently working in Los Angeles. His unique artistic approach merges oil, acrylic, and house paint with fabric, notebook scraps, and other textiles, crafting thick, sculpture-like canvases. Some of these canvases are framed with welded scrap metal sourced from around the city, while others are stretched loosely with rope around exposed lumber, reminiscent of rawhide.

In the past two years, Cole has held six solo exhibitions and two runway shows, showcasing his innovative works. In 2022, he launched CD1974, a clothing brand known for its one-of-a-kind unisex garments. Employing experimental construction methods, Cole's creations feature hand stitching, natural dyes, paint, custom patterns, and the use of domestic sewing machines. His materials are locally sourced or recycled fabrics, and he often uses power tools, a 12-gauge shotgun, and fire to distress fabric.

Cole's work has gained significant attention, being featured in GQ, Interview, Numéro, and Billboard Magazine. His creations have been worn by notable figures such as Lenny Kravitz, Camila Cabello, Dave Chapelle, and Thundercat.
